We all love professional athletes but sometimes their most memorable work comes off the field. No I’m not talking about court mandated charity work or cameos in Adam Sandler movies I’m talking about crimes. These three athletes live by the mantra “go big or go home” especially when it comes to breaking the law. Everyone is very familiar with household names like O.J. Simpson, Michael Vick and Peyton Manning (forced his balls on an athletic trainer), but some great criminal athletes go unnoticed. So here are the top three underrated criminal athletes of all time.
Not only did Lawrence Taylor redefine the linebacker position he also was a pioneer when it came to stereotypes about crackheads. Before Lawrence Taylor came around the common notion was that it wasn’t a good idea to smoke crack during halftime of a NFL game. He also was a groundbreaker when it came to failing drug tests. When they asked LT about his first positive test for cocaine he replied “I’m shocked, after all I was buying urine.” So if you were curious as to how much cocaine was being done in the 1980s in New York, even the guy that was selling urine to LT was on cocaine.
Allen Iverson may best be remembered for his epic press conference were he said the word “practice” about 25 times. But seriously why would anyone ask about practice when you can ask about his involvement in 1993 bowling alley brawl? Iverson was a minor in high school but he was charged with maiming by mob and sentenced to fifteen years in prison. He only served four months after getting pardoned by the Governor. No word if A.I. is still as passionate about bowling as he once was.
Ahh yes Lenny Dykstra, the only thing bigger than his plug of chewing tobacco is his criminal record. To put things in perspective Charlie Sheen once thought Lenny Dykstra was out of control. Embezzling, drugs, fraud, grand theft auto and money laundering Lenny Dykstra is truly a five tool criminal. If there’s something illegal going on Lenny Dykstra is involved. His career criminal highlight comes from 2011 when he was charged for indecent exposure after “revealing himself” to a maid he hired in an attempt to seduce her. It came a surprise to everyone as traditionally Mets are great at getting fucked.
